Topic 2 - Energy storage
Energy storage deals with the issue of storing excess energy from renewable sources such as solar or wind energy and calling it up when needed. Effective energy storage allows energy to be stored when it is available and cheap, for later use when needed or when energy demand is high.
Energy storage is a crucial factor for a successful integration of renewable energy sources into the power supply. The development and implementation of energy storage systems is often expensive and requires large investments. Reducing costs is an important factor in making energy storage economically attractive and enabling wider application.
It is also crucial that future energy storage systems are efficient in order to minimize losses and ensure maximum use of the stored energy. Greater efficiency can reduce operating costs and improve the sustainability of energy storage.
